Great day to spend some time on the river and then celebrate Will's birthday with some of Gin-Gin's Smoked Pork!

While eating dinner with Carly and her parents tonight we were talking about Carly fishing and recalled a time when her little pink fishing rod was tested to its limit! Well I finally located a few video clips after I got home so here it is, just for Carly! We had a great time and about to do it again this Spring!

It was time to get the boat out today and feel some sunshine. I discovered I need a new livewell pump and located a few crappie. Water temp was 51. Seems like an early Spring!

This features my little fishing buddy singing at her favorite volume level! We only landed one striper that was willing to take the small bucktail offering today. After finally locating the right area we had what seemed like 8-10 fish this size plowing through huge mats of lethargic shad all around the boat. We had one other fish hit a countdown but it broke off. Water temp was 51-52

We made a long-weekend trip down to Pensacola to target some bull reds. We found a great 3 bedroom place for only $75 a night right on the water with a dock and a boat lift, which was nice with 3 folks splitting the rent. We went offshore a couple days in 3-5ft seas and caught amberjack, red snapper, bonito, and just about got seasick one day when waves were 4-6ft…just about too rough to fish at all.
Inshore we found a nice bit of structure in the bay holding bull reds and snapper – it quickly became a favorite area to fish and on the last day every one caught several bull reds and we also limited out on slot fish. Live cigar minnows on sabiki, fresh netted menhaden, and bucktail jigs were the baits that worked best. We also found a place where we could catch white trout on every cast, which tasted similar to speckled trout.
We grilled fish two nights and brought home plenty of fish for the freezer. Although the weather did not cooperate with fog, rain and high winds for my sons first venture offshore, it was a very productive trip with lots of great fishing. Water tems were around 65 inshore and 70 offshore.

It was great to see so many healthy fish in one area but they can also be very difficult to catch when feeding on tiny glass minnows. They refused numerous offerings, even a live menhaden...next time I may try a small crab
